It is the highest form of competition riding; both the horse and rider must commit moves to memory and perform them. The horse who is participating must have built up the athletic ability needed to complete a series of pre-planned moves in a certain time limit. It is a long process to train for dressage events, but it is worth the wait.
Also known as “horse ballet,” the dressage sport offers competitions for all levels of riders—from beginners to experts, with some of these experts including Olympians. When it is a rider’s turn to perform, they must perform a series of tests, with each test increasing in difficulty.
